Braising Steak

(Serves 4)


Preparation time 20 mins 

Cooking time for complete meal 2 hours (depending on your cut of meat)

Pre-heat the oven to 160°c

(Cooking times will vary depending on your oven, we use a fan oven)


You will need:

2 sachets of Secret Chef Beef Rub

600-800g Braising Steak

2 medium Onions, sliced

3 large Carrots, peeled & diced

½ head of Celery, roughly chopped

1 Leek, chopped

2 Cloves Garlic, squashed

200ml Red Wine

300ml Water

5tsp Vegetable Oil

3 tbsp Plain Flour


On a plate mix one of the sachets of Secret Chef Beef Rub with the flour.

Coat the beef on both sides with this mixture and fry in a hot frying pan until brown. 

Remove and set to one side.

Add the vegetables to the frying pan along with the second sachet of Secret Chef Beef Rub and quickly stir fry for 2 mins.

Deglaze the pan with a splash of water to remove all the tasty flavours.

Tip these vegetables into a casserole dish, nestle the meat on top and cover with the red wine and water. Place lid on top and put into the pre-heated oven for approximately 2 hours.

Stir occasionally; making sure the meat is covered with liquid at all times.
