Poached Pear Crumble

(Serves 4/5)

Preparation time 20 minutes

Cooking time 1 hour 15 minutes

Pre-heat the oven to 190°c

(Cooking times will vary depending on your oven, we use a fan oven)

You will need:

For the Poached Pears:

2 Sachets Mulled Cider or Wine Spices

1 litre Apple or Pear Cider or Apple Juice.

75g Sugar

4 tbsp Brandy (optional)

4 Pears peeled, cored & halved

For the Topping:

300g Plain Flour

175g Sugar

200g Butter at room temperature

Place all ingredients for the poached pears in a saucepan, bring up to heat and simmer for 30 minutes turning occasionally.

In a large bowl mix the flour and sugar and rub in the butter until it resembles breadcrumbs. Don’t worry if you have a few large bits as these will become nice and crispy.

Take a deep oven dish and fill with the pears & a little of the liquid leaving at least 2cm from the top. Top with the crumble mix and cook in a hot oven until golden brown. (30 – 40 minutes)

Serve with a dollop of Clotted Cream or Ice Cream & a generous grind of

either of our Secret Chef Dessert Spices.

Don’t bin the leftover poaching liquid it can be enjoyed hot or cold as a drink.
